You Might Need More of Jesus if …

Get thee behind me, Satan! You, like me, might need more of Jesus today if…

The thought of laying hands on someone has nothing to do with the desire to pray for them –  Some people are “extra measure of grace” brothers and sisters that need to go with God and stay out of my way. I love them “with the love of the Lord” but are we going to sip lattes and walk through the NYS museum on my day off? Nope. In fact, that’s a big bag of nope tied with a nope ribbon. Jesus loved everyone, but He did not obligate Himself to keep close relationships with every person who tossed their mat near His at the synagogue. I can live with that. The Fruit of the Spirit in you has grown moldy…but it’s still throw-able! Can you name all nine of the fruit of the Spirit off the top of your head? I can. My three-year-old does it as a parlor trick to earn Swedish Fish at dinner parties and she still slaps her sister in the face when she wants her chapstick. Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness (aka meekness), faithfulness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Spiritual fruit is grown and cultivated through “opportunities” that usually come in the form of ignorant co-workers or screaming toddlers or the guy who just rear-ended you. “I swear to God I’m going to…” is pretty much the definition of your prayer life – “There are no atheists in a foxhole” as the old adage goes. Everyone prays to something if their need is desperate enough. However, prayer to a living God should be an ongoing faith-building strategy that will carry you through to the other side when life slams its brass knuckles into your front teeth. Remember these wise words from Alicia: Don’t wait until you need faith to get faith. Get more of Jesus in: Philippians 4:4-9.

Three days in the belly of a fish sounds more exciting than a prayer meeting/mid-week service – Ok, ok we all have out moments of “ugh” at church. Just me? A church is a family and who doesn’t want to fly across the table and smash grandma’s prune cake into a family member’s face at Easter? I’ll say this: If you hate church that much, find one you love! Also, Church of the Internet doesn’t count as actual church unless you or someone in your direct care has a communicable illness- in which case I command encourage you to stay in your house and do not come out. We’ll leave food on your porch. Get more of Jesus in Hebrews 10:23-25 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.

The beam in your eye is officially part of your outfit – We all love to point fingers- it’s human nature! Plus there are so many funny, dumb, perplexing things people do/wear to point at, am I right?! “Judge not, that you be not judged” is one of the most misused Bible verses ever. All humans are judging at all times. That is gospel truth. Christians “do not judge” for heaven or hell- that’s God’s job. However, Jesus noted that we should help others remove their specks, as long as our beams are out of the way. So, it is acceptable and not at all un-Christ-like to use your wisdom to make a judgement call about a person’s behavior or choices against the truth of God’s Word. Still, the worse kind of lies are the ones that we tell ourselves, so remember this when everyone gets judge-y on you…! Get more of Jesus in: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.

You got this!

.. Got any more to add?!  😀
